A New Project
He shuffled up the gravel path, hoping she would turn around when she heard his approach.
All that accomplished was the scuffing of his boots, so he stopped a respectful distance away and cleared his throat.
Still no response.
So he went for the direct route. “I see we acquired a new castle overnight, Milady. Will it be receiving the standard treatment?”
“No.” She did not turn around. “I want it tied where it is, in the same position and height, with a proper foundation and staircases. I want to be able to get into the thing this time.”
“But, Milady, the gardens…”
She turned now to face him, her expensive silks rustling with the movement."We will not be needing them anymore. Tear them out.”
He swallowed, then took a deep breath to keep the shock out of his voice. “But..”
“This is the best one yet, and I want it done quickly. I expect your plans by tomorrow at nightfall.” She turned away in dismissal and faced her new castle.
“Yes, Milady.” He bowed to her back, and all but sprinted back to the manor house.
