Out of the Blue

Harvey had changed since I had last seen him. His track suit seemed to fit better and there was a gleam in his eye that almost seemed like pride. His hand met mine and shook it firmly. There was no doubt about it, something had changed him profoundly.

“Good to see you again.” He said.

“You too.” I managed.

“It’s almost like old times. You, me, coffee.” Harvey smiled.

Except old college friends don’t show up out of the blue having become completely different people, I thought.

“I bet your wondering why I invited you out.” Harvey said, looking out the dirty glass of the coffee shop window.

“Yeah. I mean, no. I mean, old friends can get together without-”

“No. I had a reason. I definitely had a reason. Just remember everything that happens today.”

Oh god. I hoped he wasn’t crazy.

Gunshots erupted outside, driving the thought from my mind. The window became a waterfall of slivered glass.

Harvey darted to the door pausing just long enough to turn back to me. “Don’t worry about me- I’m invincible now.”
