The Final Night (NaFicWriMo 1)
The mosquitos buzzed around our heads as we sat around the fire the final night.
Jake, one of the counselors, sat across from me. More then once I’d caught him watching me, and our gaze would meet for a minute. I’d had a crush on him the entire summer, and thought maybe it was my imagination. He was 5 years older than me though: I was 17 and he was 23.
When we were dismissed, I snuck off to the lake to sit by the water. He followed me down to the bank, and soon his arms were wrapped around me tightly. I turned in his embrace and he leaned down and kissed me softly. He was tall with short blond hair and the greenest eyes I’d ever seen.
“Do you know how long I’ve been waiting to do that?” he asked.
Before long we were laying in the cool sand making love. The sky was clear and the stars and moon were out, watching us. It was perfect. When it was over we laid down on the sand and he pulled me on top of him.
“Is this it?” I asked. “I’ll never see you again?”
He shook his head and he smiled, “Let’s keep in touch.”
