A Different Kind Of Love

I began as an innocent lump
of colorless clay.
You did not come in until
one full year later,
but as soon as you saw me,
you knew
and
I knew
that you would change me for the better.
To you, I was a challenge.
A colorless lump of pathetic clay
that you could shape
into something beautiful.
Over the six years we spent together
you took your time molding me
with your steady hands
that trailed along my worn out clay
like there was some invisible path
you walked along so many times
before.
You embraced my imperfections
and contorted me into odd shapes and
twisted weird angles into my sides,
just to prove I could withstand anything
you threw at me.
I sit confidently on your shelf
among your most prized
possessions.

You changed me
and I’d like to think
that I changed you too.
