quite everything you know is wrong

He always imagined that if you were to fall to your death, it would be peaceful.

He imagined the wind rushing through his hair, adrenaline flowing, blood pumping in his ears.

He imagined, or hoped, rather, that before he landed, he would pass out. His body would expect the impact, or his ears would sense the fall.

He expected to feel nothing.

What happened was quite the polar opposite.

As he fell, he felt everything in the world. He felt pain, anguish, anger, regret, hatred, love, forgiveness, grudge, lust, peace, and distress all at the same time.

He saw nothing. His life didn’t flash before his eyes. His memories didn’t fly through brain in a series of images with Amazing Grace playing behind it.

And as he hit the pavement below him, he felt everything end. He felt himself struggle to find his last breath.

He felt so much pain that he wanted to die, but he couldn’t because he was already dead.

He was dead and he knew it.

But all the pain in the world still lingered on his anchorless soul.
