Honestly, I didn’t like the cliche you close with. I thought it added a layer of humor that doesn’t belong… a kind of hokey humor. However, with that out of the way, I read the entire thing, and that means something. It means that I liked it enough to finish. The extreme situation drew me in, and your intense descriptions matched the scientist’s strong conviction—making an exciting scene. Not only that, but the relationship between the two characters is pretty engaging—interesting to wonder if she is going to reject the scientist’s risky teaching and map her own path or fall in line and do as he does—her decision will reveal part of who she is as a person.
Only reason I put that cliche line is because of the challenge I entered this in. I took that cliche line as my starting point and try to make a very literal yet very extreme view of that cliche saying.
