Origins
In the near future, there
will be an ocean between us.
If you’d let me, I would swim
the vast and unknown waves
and wash up on some sandy shore,
disheveled and quite confused,
but grinning madly nonetheless
up at your welcoming eyes.
However, I cannot swim.
My limbs are far too fragile and
I don’t think my heart could
take the strain.
Onwards, valiant knight.
Go forth into this strange new world
you’re so accustomed to, and bask
in your own glory.
I will stay behind and keep house,
perhaps learn a few tricks myself back home.
Because I know
(without any real doubt)
that the two of us
(now thick as thieves)
will return to our origins.
