Looking For The Pacific Ocean With A Flashlight
I had my first out-of-body experience.
The walk over to the grass seems fuzzy to me,
even now after trying to recollect it
for the past few hours
(Has it really only been two?)
My movements seemed to blend into time
itself, and I couldn’t feel
a thing.
I became Louis and Clark,
searching far and wide
for unknown territories,
but I got frightened and got lost
trying to find my way back home.
I could feel my mouth moving
and the words slipping through
my trembling lips,
but I lacked control
and articulation.
Your hand lacked warmth
and clarity.
You kept repeating
that I should stay grounded,
but my mind had already
reached the farthest corners
of the universe.
I wasn’t really there,
only saving the place for another.
I faded in and out,
here and gone,
there and back
again.
I wouldn’t replicate that
in my wildest dreams.
