Before S.A.M. met Riley
S.A.M. was supposed to be a diamond in the rough but even a stone’s throw away, Riley could tell he was built like a tank and moved like a bull in a china shop. Of course in New Honk Kong, all of those were relative. Riley supposed that stone could travel a pretty far given their gravity and for all she knew maybe S.A.M had been assembled in the same way that tanks were. He might even have diamond dust inside him somewhere.
“They’re almost here. Would it kill you to smile?” Riley’s mother asked.
Riley was still bitter about this whole meeting. “I don’t know. Will the soulless robot kill me if I smile? What if he thinks I’m threatening him? Better hiding in a safe than sorry, that’s what I always say.”
“Riley. . .” Riley’s mother said warningly.
The angry teenager wished her mother would stop beating a dead horse. It ruined meat and conversation alike. “Fine, but when he goes ‘no-soul’ berserk and murders all of us, it’ll be your fault.” Riley said sulllenly, plastering a huge fake smile across her face.
