The matter of fact tone for this story is strangely beautiful to me. Was that intentional?

Yes. This is based on a couple of true stories, but mixed together in a new location and time. It is just the way things are. I might add a part to it later, but it won’t be so matter of fact. I couldn’t put that part here because it would have broken up this piece and sounded ridiculous and confusing.
