From the Library of Failure (Branch 2, Part 10)
Jenny recoiled from the woman and in a flash of violet light, everything changed. There was a momentary sense of astonishment and hurt that Jenny knew came from the woman but she didn’t have time to dwell on it.
Inexplicably, she found herself standing on the lip of a skyscraper. One step forward and she would fall to her death. Despite being so high up there was no wind. Down below, the streets were empty. Paralyzed by fear, Jenny couldn’t even breathe.
“Come down from there.” A woman’s voice called from behind her. It almost sounded like her mom. “You could hurt yourself.”
Startled, Jenny looked over her shoulder and almost fell off the roof. Only years of Karate and dance allowed her to keep her balance. Gravel disturbed by the motion of her feet, scattered down the side of the building.
The woman standing there looked like one of the girls from her dreams! She was even wearing the same strange looking goggles that so many of them wore.
“Who’re you?” Jenny asked.
“Come down first. Then we can talk.”
