Grim Company: Degrees of Responsibility

“It’s all well and good for you two to disappear, but what about the rest of us?” Sahlina’s voice was still angry but it was subdued, almost whiny.

Elein waited for Neff to say something but the little wizard appeared content to let him answer, as did the rest of the waiting group.

“Look, Neff saved my life,” Elein turned to address her. “for which I am truly grateful. Thank you.” He turned back to face Sahlina. “However, I will not apologize for her actions. She did what she thought was necessary, as I expect you all to do, especially in a battle. Out here, in this blasted wasteland, we only have each other. It’s our trust that will carry us through the rough times ahead. Let me remind you that if we fail, the consequences will fall far beyond our own lands. The entire world is in grave danger. Let me promise you this though: I won’t ever leave any of you of my own free will.”

“That’s good enough for us.” Juran said, speaking for the twins.

“I never doubted you.” Baruht said, a hint of bear in his smile.
