The rush of the ending is sort of the point, to my eyes. It is an attempt to highlight how chain-reaction events won’t leave any time for press conferences, last goodbyes or anything else. Is that the worst way for the world to end, or the kindest?
I, too, liked the ending. I’m the one in my little group of friends and family that got consulted when the LHC was supposedly going to end the world. This was a fun read, in that context. :)
I especially loved “It wasn’t CERN, but it worked.” Had they broken the particle collider at CERN by the time you wrote this? Loved the character names too, btw.
