The Duke's Friend or Foe?
Deverel quickly says, “I just need to tell you that you have to do everything in your power to not get sold today. I’m part of an organization that sent me here to scout the area. I will be sold today. We are working on getting evidence to bring The Duke to justice. You’ll have to be a little more patient. Alright?”
I hadn’t realized how sluggish my brain had become until it took me so long to comprehend what he was saying. He was talking to me! Speaking to me like I am human! What did he mean?
I tried to open my mouth to answer him but he fished something out of his pocket. It was a remote. It had two buttons and a dial. His eyes were apologetic as he spun the dial to the left and I froze. Panic slowly rose in me but my breathing stayed completely normal. He had let me turn around with that device. And now he stopped me. I wanted fury to rush through my body but his devide had increased my lack of control. The emotion was subdued and torpid. My mind was like a dying turtle on a highway of stimuli.
