Charles Causley on his poem, I Saw A Jolly Hunter
I saw a jolly scene
In the jolly field
It was a jolly hunter
hunting a jolly hare
He was jolly stupid
Shot his jolly head
He was jolly dead
Jolly good, I had said
I went jolly home
To pen jolly thoughts
All in jolly stanzas
With four jolly lines
Jolly poems jolly same
but this one’s funny
Jolly old line lengths
are all jolly short
I had a jolly thought
Realisation jolly setting
Jolly hell, I’ve witnessed death
Jolly well, I shrugged.
