The Aquarium

“See how they move like that?” Shawn pulled Ivy closer, pointing at the brightly colored fish flying through their false habitat. The eleven-year-old nodded, raven hair bouncing on her shoulders. “Yeah! Look, a Hammerhead!” The girl pointed at the shark, eyes widening with new found interest sparked like a match. Shawn inched closer to the plexiglass, wrapping his arm around Ivy’s waist. Together they watched the sneaky predator glide gracefully among the amazingly colored fish they had been watching. Ivy stood and Shawn knelt in utter silence as they watching the mysterious sea creatures flutter through the water, brushing artificial plants and each other. Both were in complete awe. And slight envy.

“Ever wonder what it’d be like?” Shawn’s philosophical side was showing itself.

“Wonder what what’s like?” Ivy replied in a still bewildered tone.

“To be so… So…” There is a pause as Shawn falls once more into thought.

“Free, Shawn?” The pair whip around only to see Doe and his purple scarf, smiling.
