mmm nice image of a chessboard! Although the constant references to the image can get a little unnecessary after a while… love the part about monochrome queens :) oh and is this the first of a series of name poems? hopeful :D
it is, actually. The poems are mostly based on what the names mean. Leia, if I’m not mistaken means ‘weary’.
@brazen
It’s a bit saddening, and sometimes a bit annoying, but sometimes, just sweeping everything away is the best solution… although I really wonder about it sometimes.
Actually I think the chess image is a very good centralizer. It’s an extended metaphor that works well and is used in a way that doesn’t get stale, so I wouldn’t worry about it getting wearisome (besides, even if it did, that would be an excellent case of form following theme). Good rhythm especially; it almost gets Shakespearean with the “made of tears, made of tears.”
Another great piece to add to the tidal wave of awesome poetry that’s flooding ficly at the moment. I look forward to more! Never knew what ‘Leia’ means – will be watching Star Wars in a whole new light! =)
