That brisk chill to the air
caught me rather by surprise.
Sure, I’ve waited patiently
for the leaves to fall
and the sticky weather
turn chilly,
but it came on so suddenly
that I couldn’t help but gasp
as my breath hung in the
stale afternoon air.
