Good job with the solemn feel of it all. It seems to hint that the people in that town didn’t have a choice, for some reason. I liked the overall effect. :D
“as comfortable with the bow-tie around his neck as he would be a noose” – that’s a great line, creates such good imagery while filling out the character. I like the personification of the moon too – people seem to have stopped calling it ‘her’ but the elegance of it is too good to lose.
