A Letter I Never Wanted To Send
Dear Sir,
I must apologize for
sending you such a messy letter.
Words are crossed out and
the ink has been smeared
from my tears that plopped onto
the pages.
I didn’t mean for it to come
to this. You must believe me.
(I wish we could get on a train
and escape, but all of the tickets
are sold out and I don’t have a
penny to my name).
I must bid you farewell, my love,
and my voice is
break
break
breaking
on every syllable I write.
You mustn’t think my heart has gone astray
(though it has).
So, goodbye, my dear gentleman.
Perhaps we shall meet again
soon.
And you must remember this:
You’ll always be my favorite,
favorite thing.
