Jack & The Barfstalk!
My eyes twitch. My hands plastered to the sides of my head, I scream internally from the torture I was just exposed to.
“Why is this story famous?!?! It’s horrible! The worst short story I have EVER read!” I rant at no one in particular.
My mind is in a whirlwind of disgust as I compare two versions of this children’s story. ‘Flesh-devouring giants, thieving boys, freaky fairies, murders, threats, laziness, and the end is that the boy and the mother are rich?! What kind of a lesson is this teaching children!?!?!’
I close the stories with a growl of annoyance and leap out of my chair, pacing like a tiger across the dining room floor.
“I can’t believe I have to write a version of this.” I mutter.
And then a smile slowly creeps on my face, “A version of it. Slightly similar.”
I sit down and open a word document. I begin typing the title in big green letters:
Jenny & The Corn Stalk
Once upon a time in a land far away….
