Come Back

“Wren!”

Autumn’s anguished cry rang out in the morning air, and Veser held her back with a steely grip. Tears spilled down her cheeks, purple eyes wide with a mixture of emotions enough to create the most lethal of poisons. “Wren!” The girl looked back at her mother, eyes equally as full of tears. The soldier held the girl’s shoulder tightly, steering her toward the car. Wren looked over her shoulder at her parents, a sob shaking her fragile frame. “Daddy!” Veser winced as if someone hit him, sinking back a few feet. . The soldier opened the door to his high-tech looking car, shoving the young Hastings child into the backseat roughly. The door locked, striking fear into Wren’s heart. She got up on her knees and placed two fists on the cold, foggy window. “Mom! Dad!” Hearts broke at this.

Autumn placed a hand on Veser’s, letting out a loud sob as they drove away with their daughter, “They can’t do this!” Veser wasn’t able to reply. So instead the two sat weeping on the dew struck hillside.
