Fever Dreaming

I pull my soaked sweatshirt tighter around me and shiver hard. The rain bearing down upon me has stained my skin unhealthily pale and my cheeks a flaming red. My burned cheeks are the only sorce of heat on me. My head throbs, and I am beyond exhausted. But I’m determined to at least make it to your door. I know I have to. My walk has become something of a pathetic hobble which causes my calves to burn hungrily, but I press on. I have to. This is my only chance.

I hobble up to you door, raising a shaky arm and bringing my fist to the wood. There’s a murmur, and suddenly the door is opened by a very tall boy I know as your brother. I shiver hard again, my knees nearly collapsing under me. I catch myself on the door frame with one arm, but it’s obvious I can barely hold myself aloft. There’s a gasp behind your brother, and when I look, I see you with your hands over your mouth, eyes wide with a mix of shock and concern. I smile weakly, “I don’t feel good, Julia.” You step forwards, but I’m already falling.
