The Signs Say Keep Out
Gavin almost thought he was hallucinating when he heard the muffled sound of the door being knocked on. He arched an eyebrow as he pulled his hulking body off the chair he had been dozing off on. He heard the knock again. He could just ignore it, he thought, pretend he wasn’t home.
Someone had made him get up though, and he intended to find out who it was. The knocks were becoming louder and more frequent. Gavin muttered an oath as he reached the giant wooden doors. He had an Uzzi in his left hand, behind his back and his right hand on the lock of the door.
He swiftly unlocked and yanked open the door. The sight before him had him stunned for a second. A girl, a young woman really, soaked to the bone and wearing a torn dress & stilettos was staring at him.
“The signs say Keep Out.” Gavin grumbled, just loud enough to be heard over the pouring rain.
The girl’s speech was slurred, “Sorry. This is an emergency.”
Suddenly, she pitched forward and Gavin caught a clear view of a gunshot wound on her shoulder.
