Ugly Beautiful

Dearest body,
You used to be so beautiful. You used to be strong and fast and worth looking at. Now you pant as you walk, groan as you rise and creak as you bend. Your once soft and supple skin is scarred beyond recognition with stretch-marks, pockmarks and deliberately deep lines made by depressingly sharp knives.
Now that I can’t fix you, now that my damage is permanent, now is when I realize your value. Now is when I deem you worthy of maintaining. I’ve made my bed, the mattress sags and there are spiders living in my blankets, but its my bed and I’m sleeping in it.

Sincerely,
Your unworthy caretaker
