The Forest Clearing

Raena was amazed at what she found. She knew, theoretically, that her desperation would take her where she needed to go, once she was outside the train, but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine the place she had fallen. She was not injured. The magic was too strong; the stone shard around her neck glowed bright blue. Then the color drained, and it was translucent quartz again.

Shaking her head, she examined the area around her. In the middle of the clearing, there was a pool of water, surrounded by mossy ground. A little in the distance, she could hear the sound of water flowing somewhere off to her right. She walked toward it, and came upon a waterfall, the water alternating between the glowing blue and the cloudy white her necklace had shone. ‘So that was the source of the color.’ She thought, and allowed her gaze to drift sideways. A man stood there, an ax at his side, cupping in his hands what looked like a baby bird. There was an orange light in its eyes, like flame.
