Room 5

“But I turned it off Doctor. Just like you said. You told me to close down the machine in Room 5, and that’s just what I’ve done.”

“Idiot! I said Room 25, not Room 5. My God man, you have no idea of the danger you’ve put us all in.”

Doctor Peterson brushed aside the flustered orderly and rushed off down the hospital corridor. He knew any mistakes at this stage would be catastrophic and cost him a lot more than just his job. Once the sponsors found out what had happened he knew he’d be in serious trouble. With luck he might get to the room before it was too late.

Opening the door to Room 5 he prayed he might still be in time to retrieve the situation. A quick glance around the room confirmed his worst fears. The bed was empty and wires from the silent machine strewn across the floor. On the far side of the small room the bars had been torn from the window and the reinforced glass smashed.

The creature was very much alive and out there, somewhere. God help us all.
