First Chime
The stroke after midnight; the first light appears over the top of the hill. Its soft yellow glow bobs gently left and right in the hand of the priest as he leads the procession. Soon the first blue light will appear, and another, and another, until the shadowy outline of the distant hilltops are blurred by the floating lights as they slowly make their way to the chapel.
And when the church bells begin to ring the curtains hiding the cowering villagers begin to stir as the eyes of children and parents alike peek out on the world.
The morn after All Hallows Eve. The church bells shoo away the last evil spirits, away back to their slumbers for another year.
