Let's Make a Deal
“You’re new at this, aren’t you?” I asked the guy that was left to guard me. Sweat was pouring off of him.
“No. Just leave me alone,” he said as he walked across the small room. He took a transfusion bag out of the cooler and sucked it down like it was the last drink on Earth.
“I think you are. You’re twitchy, the light’s killing your eyes, and I bet you can hear every drop of blood running through my veins. Either you’re a methhead with a migraine, or you just got turned. I can’t turn you back, but I might be able help you cope with it,” I said. “But first, we need to get out of here and get to my dad and brother.”
“I didn’t want this,” he confessed. “My girlfriend was into vamps and I thought…”
“This would be a good way to get laid?” I finished. “Noble, but stupid.”
“Can you really help me if I get you out?”
“I can try, but you have to trust me. Can you get my bow and machete? Odds are we’re gonna have to have fight our way out.”
A smile spread across his face. “I’ve got a better idea…”
