Fly Away?

The boy heard her from a mile away. He had tried his hardest to fly as far as he could. He knew it was going to happen the moment he left her sight. Was it selfish of him? Or was it the right thing for him to do? He wished God was real so he could’ve asked him. He was meant to fly and she was meant to stay on the ground.
She was always telling him to go! She was always telling him, “You must do what you were meant to do! You must fly and protect and save them all!” He soared through his memories and recalled the moments, recalled the exact words she spoke to him. His gift was bigger than her—bigger than her love. It was beautiful and it could be perfect, but only without distraction. But what is a greater distraction than being away from the one he loved? His heart felt torn and his mind was shadowed.
