Reconstruction: Part 6 (Day 13)
Commander Jasper looked down. It was all about to end. Sure, there will be hardships to follow, but the war that seemed like it was sure to kill each and every one of us is done. How? How did we do it? No matter.
“Is everything set up?”
“Everything is ready when you are.”
“Light them up.”
“Green light! Green light!”
Jets flew over the city. Soldiers retreated, the black hawks got away. The longest minute in the history of humanity commenced. The biggest barrage of missiles you’d ever seen rained down.
Buildings cascaded down as weightlessly as a house of cards. Orange bloomed as the smoke rose. Bang after bang the explosives rang out. You could feel the death and victory in the air.
Some soldiers watched. Some cried. Some looked at pictures of their loved ones. Some cheered. The eerie thoughts of the ones lost were felt between one another.
It was over.
