Idle No More

He Dreams of Dragons lifted the teepee flap and peered outside. The plain was full. Teepees, fires, horses, and people were all around.

He Dreams of Dragons went back into his teepee and found his spear. Walking slowly, he crossed the plain to the fire where the great chiefs sat. They had sat in discussion for days and days. For moons and moons. For nearly a season.

He Dreams of Dragons joined the line of people who wished to speak to the chiefs. Most had become bored by all this sitting and urged action, any kind of action. Some were far too reckless, and the chiefs did not listen to them. Others were cautious, afraid of what might lie ahead, and content to wait. Waiting was familiar.

When it came time for He Dreams of Dragons to speak, the words left him. He looked at the chiefs, and he looked to the horizon. The castle still stood there, though the dragon hid inside.

“We cannot do nothing,” he finally said. “We cannot be idle, like the dragon. We must vanquish this monster that hovers over us.”
