Catching Up (Day 21)

“2:54. He was supposed to be here about 15 minutes ago.”

Today was the day I was meeting up with my old high school friend. He and I were very close. Eventually after graduation we slipped apart. Thankfully, the internet has allowed me to find him on Facebook to catch up. Not many words were said, but I figured he wanted to just leave everything to be said over some bowling.

Looking around, I don’t see him. Slightly annoying to have to wait up like this without a heads up.

Just as I’m thinking this, I look up and see him walk in. He’s raggedy, shaky, and looking nervous. It looks like he just got out of rehab, and not by completing it.

“Chase?”

“Hey!” He walks over to me. “Long t-time no see!”

“How have you been?”

“Up and down. Listen, if I’m off, sorry. I’ve been out there. My dealer’s been following me.”

“What?”

“Yeah. I haven’t been able to pay him. Don’t mind him. He won’t bother you.”

“Alright. Well I’ll get us food. Be right back.”

I turn and immediately leave. I’m not even going to bother.
