Great portrait of gambling and alcoholism and abject dispair. Not a pretty picture, but well painted. I also like how the desperation and the last line go together well to suggest some hijinks or drama is about to ensue.

LOVE the way you described the rum and coke concoction. I think that really did it for me that that is how drunk he knows he is but isn’t doing much about it but continuing to feel bad about himself.
It really is sad but incredibly well written.
