That was a really, really sad ending. The fumbled lines, if said to a girl, might not have gone over very well. Said to a cat, well, they probably work just fine. The first three sentences are all long, but the first two are run-ons. They would work just as well as 4 short sentences.

Oh my gosh, this is simultaneously depressing and super adorable! I love the idea of a character that’s even nervous around his cat. :)

The funny thing is is that when I wrote this I was aiming more for humorous! haha!

If I may be so bold as to offer some advice… you may want to throttle back on your exclamation points. They dilute the feel. I understand the dude may be chipper, but it seems like he’s yelling into the room. Just my opinion though.
