In Case of Emergency
I looked around, desperately searching for an escape route. After all we’d been through, it seemed ridiculous that this was going to be how it all ended—we were trapped in a car, drifting slowly to the bottom of a river. A river that just so happens to be the home of a rather hungry school of piranhas.
“Hank, I don’t don’t know how we’re going to get ourselves out of this one.” I looked over at my friend, and he was staring up at the receding sunlight.
“Clearly…”
“Hey! You’re supposed to disagree with me, and have a plan to get us out.”
With that he hit a button on the dashboard, and I was blinded as our car was propelled up out of the water and landed on the bank.
“WHY DIDN’T YOU DO THAT EARLIER!”
“The system had to warm up.” He looked at me like it should have been obvious.
“I can’t believe your EMERGENCY system needs to warm up.”
“You need to work on your patience.”
“I WAS ABOUT TO DIE. Sorry, I panicked a little.”
“Clearly.” Honestly, I don’t know how I haven’t killed him yet.
