Temptation
I lost my faith beneath your branches
On a bed of fallen leaves
I tore your soft earth into pieces
As I fought to find belief
Which had possessed me
Hours before
Deeper than bone
Stronger than anything
But I watched your fruit
Grow ripe and heavy
And I craved knowledge
Of their taste
Yearned to bite their pale flesh
Until nothing remained
I could not resist
The temptation
And was tainted
Beyond recognition
