Violent Disconnection (Day 94)

A bee buzzed against the window. It wasn’t an angry noise but rather it sounded like nature herself was humming. It reminded me of a cat’s contented purr.

I tapped the window. “Hey there, Mr. Bee. You seem pretty happy out there.”

The bee ignored me and continued to fly around in glorious loop de loops. I followed him with my finger, tracing the same patterns. Something about the circles and the gentle embrace of the sun was making me drowsy.

My face came to rest against the window, the bee’s buzz became a mighty, all encompassing sound. The warmth and noise blended together and I hummed along with it. “Ohmmmm.”

Gradually my sound became part of a greater one; I became part of something greater.

WHAM

Something big and heavy slammed against the window, rocking me out of that world. Mr. Bee was gone but there was a wet splotch where he used to be. Outside, Cecilia hopped through the grass on one foot.

I knocked on the window to get her attention. “Why did you do that?”

“I’m allergic to bees, dummy.”
