Eternal Companions

Beneath the twinkling of the stars
Witnessed by the Moon and sanctified by the Earth
Sealed by a warm embrace and true loves kiss
We renewed our wedding vows under the soft glow of a street light.

It’s only been a day since we first met, but
The moment our hands touched
It was known, even though we didn’t quite understand
We’ve belonged to each other since before the world began.

We will never bow to the human ritual of marriage
Our ceremony was held eons ago within a nebulous cloud.
Ancient and sacred, the origins of love itself
Eternal companions drawn together through space and time.

And years from now when our children have grown and gone
We will step into the night with our hands intertwined
And fall away from this life whispering a pledge
To renew our vows in another life beneath the stars and the pale moon light.
