Letters
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have robbed you of your attention. Thank you.
You may steal it back at any time, naturally, but let me ask you this: Will you? Before making this decision, please consider my promise: these letters will redeem me. You now ask yourselves, what is the value of letters? You ask yourselves whose words you’re reading. You ask yourselves to what end. Are you curious?
Tell me, are you now giving me your attention? Then I’m no longer robbing you. Though if that were true my purpose would be lost. I am, after all, a thief! You will now realize the following: your attention is not all I took with those first words. I’ve also stolen a most precious commodity. Unlike all other things, Time is finite. It’s gone! Essentially, I have stolen from each and every one of you that which you can never reclaim and at the same time, I have made of you a thief for doing to me the same.
We’re each others’ prey and victim. All of us are guilty! A community of thieves with only letters to redeem us.
