Gone

This dreary drama************* This whirlwind romance
Was enacted within************ Was performed beneath
The desperate****************** The open
Streets of the barrio************ Window of an angel
Each bright smile************** Each sweet embrace
A bullet*********************** A benediction
Shot through****************** Bestowed upon
My shriveled heart************* My grateful soul

I didn’t want to know her******* I craved the touch she offered
To protect her from all harm**** Yearned for her ecstasy
But I did and would again******* But I didn’t know, couldn’t know
Because I knew I loved her****** I never knew I’d lose her
But I had to let her go*********** Or that I’d crave her when she’d gone
