Train Station

A woman stood on the edge of the train tracks, her scarf wrapped tight around her too slender neck with the strength of a hungry boa constrictor. As she stared into the blinding headlights of the approaching train, she heard the thunder of familiar feet heading in her direction. She’d been found. But she wouldn’t be captured, couldn’t bear one more broken bone. So she leaped, grabbing her chosen fate with both hands, as screams cut across the platform.

A lady stood on the edge of the train tracks, her crimson cape flapping in the unforgiving wind, the thick swatch of fabric curling around her rigid form like a contented cat. As she stared into the blinding headlights of the approaching train, she heard the pitter patter of half-grown feet behind her. He had found her. And now his gap-toothed grin captured her broken heart, leaving her fate in his tiny hands. Taking a deep breath, she turned towards the little boy who bore a ghost’s features as his gleeful screams echoed across the platform.
