Lost And Found
“Kati? What do you have there?” Morgan looked toward her thirteen-year-old sister, who seemed to be struggling with some kind of heavy object.
“Dunno!” Kati called back. “I think someone musta dropped their briefcase or something.” And sure enough, the item she was holding was a large briefcase, one that was made to look as if it was constructed of steel. “Should we return it?” Kati continued.
“Yeah, probably. I wonder if there’s an address inside.” Morgan popped the briefcase open to look, and -
“Holy shit.” The briefcase was full of money, bundles upon bundles of bills. Even at sixteen, Morgan knew that most people didn’t carry this much money on them.
Kati looked scandalized. “You said a swear.” The tone was accusing, her expression reproachful. Morgan glared back at her sister.
“Yeah, I did. Shut up a minute and let me think.” She closed the briefcase and sat back. There had to be thousands of dollars in there, she thought. Who would carry that kind of money around in a briefcase with them?
