You know, the more I think about it, the more I like how the possibility that this ‘watcher’ could be a person that cannot interfere, which makes it more dramatic and heartwrenching. At first, I was thinking the person was simply apathetic and disgustingly cruel and unfeeling for not doing anything. Since you left that distinction up to us, we are torn between the two and that is what makes this poem.
I write a lot of depressing stuff I guess but on the bright side most of them are heartfelt in a way
I did want to make it have two meanings: one being that of the background character, one being that of the willing background character.
Like you have the choice to interfere or whatever, but if you don’t you really have no-one to blame but yourself. Yet somehow it’s not as easy as it seems, such that it feels like everyone is stopping you. Dispersing your clouds of steam.
