Frivolous Kisses

As the glass touches her lips and the red velvety courage enters her body, a metamorphosis occurs. No longer capable of walking confidently alone, she grabs the closest man and wraps herself around him. She looks for her self worth in the reflection of his eyes, but her actions make her so small that she never gets a glimpse.

Their lips meet for the first time; a few minutes of bliss and it’s over.

She had felt wanted, lusted for; she had felt alive. As he walks away, not turning to look, the elation turns to sorrow. She’s left feeling cheated and unsure, wondering, “Was that kiss one of opportunity? Or did I finally find the man that wants to give me love?”

Silent competition penetrates the female friendships she tries so hard to cultivate; competition bred of thoughtless actions and frivolous kisses. She looks left and right. Backs turned towards her, she sees that she’s alone.
