DISCLAIMER: this is the roughest of rough drafts. I’m not lazy but it’s late and I’m letting my guard down, staying true to the challenge and all. It’s terrible, I know. Mice In The Leaves (http://ficlets.ficly.com/stories/13147) That was the title of my first Ficlet. I was living in Dayton Ohio and I wrote it at one of the free computers at the local community campus, pretending to be a student. I was working at The Neon Cinema popping popcorn and writing on Ficlets on my laptop while the movies were flickering—completely exposed in the lobby by the floor to ceiling glass windows. I had left my home town in New Hampshire on a whim and got as far west as Dayton and decided to set up shop. There’s more to that story but that’s all tht matters. I lived there for two years. I was very lonely. One night walking home late I was beat up and stabbed. Later, on the new site Ficly, I’d write about a person being gutted by a knife. Everyone who commented on that story pretty much hated it. So did I.
