Little Orphan Abi

Their conversation turned placid when the barmaid approached.

Bouffant blonde hair billowed over a thin brown hairband. Sea-green eyes hid behind blue-black mascara and bright orange eye shadow. Soft pink cheeks and shimmering red lips offered a simple smile. Brightly colored costume jewelry hung from her neck and over her wide collared black-and-white blouse. Her loose-fitting top was tucked tightly into a wide hemmed, black-and-white, mid-thigh-length skirt.

Wandering eyes met a bridle of questions. “Whatcha drinkin’? What’s ya poison?”

The peepers returned to their proper place. “Just some water, please. I’ll make my own elixir.”

“Be right back.” His eyes followed her feminine swank as she disappeared behind the bar.

At long last, his want of thirst quelled. He popped two pills and tipped his glass. With a mouth full of water he muttered, “What’s your name?”

“Abigail Abilify.” Her words echoed. “They call me Abi for short.” Her voice trailed off into the distance.

The vision faded.

All was silent.
