Rookie Detective Callaghan

She stared out the foggy window into the barren street, her bright jade eyes making large sweeps of the area.

She hugged her knees tighter under her over-sized T-shirt in a futile attempt to warm herself up. She didn’t dare move from her vantage point though. She refused to let him slip out of her sight again. She would figure this mystery out before the week was up.

Her cell phone buzzed on the window sill that she was precariously perched on. An unknown number.

“Yes?”

“Stop looking, Callaghan. You’ll make the neighbors uncomfortable.” A chuckling voice replied.

The call dropped before she could say anything and she almost fell off the window sill with shock. She began pacing around the room, clicking furiously through the call log. The phone call hadn’t been even registered.

She muttered a few colorful words before she went back to the window to see a man standing on the far side of the street. He had a cell phone in his hand.
