Wish Upon a Star
Dark meets light in an age-old dance of skin
Slick with sweat
And sounds
Too primal to be just moans
Though their skin so clearly reflects
Their utterly incomprehensible incompatibility
Beneath those pigments
Beat two hearts
Which pound
To the same furious rhythm
A joining far older
Than the prejudice that forbids
Any degree of association
Between light and dark
And yet
As stars shine within a blanket of darkness
Leaving the world cloaked in the softness of shadows
So do these unlucky lovers burn
Hidden from those who profess to know better
And dream of a tomorrow untainted by fear
