Dark and forbidding — on multiple levels — and hopefully not based on a true story.

Unfortunately it is. This girl who was a few grades ahead of me fell into the subway track a few months ago, maybe back in April, and they don’t know how she died. Either the train hit her or she suffered a severe head injury. They don’t know if she was drunk and fell, if she was pushed, or if she jumped. But she was my 6th grade English teacher’s daughter with an incredibly bright future and while I didn’t really know her, I know how much my teacher loved her and cherished her and hearing about the accident really freaked me out.

And with good reason. I’m sorry to hear it, and you have my sincere condolences. Even while not knowing someone well, this kind of thing can still shake you up quite a bit.

Very painful memory put aptly into a poem. I like the straight-forward feel to it, very raw and not overly dressed up.
